THE PERFECT KIDS ROOMS

WHEN Jenny and Neil Hale bought their house in Esher, Surrey, it had four bedrooms - but the odd sizes didn't suit their needs.

"There was one unusually-long master bedroom running the width of the house - just under 8m (26ft) long," remembers Jenny, who runs her own soft furnishings business.

"Then there were three single rooms. Neil and I wanted the view of the garden from our room, so we knocked down a wall between the two single rooms over the garden to give us a decent-sized master bedroom. Then it made sense to split the long bedroom in two for the children.

"We had a stud wall built in the middle and created a lobby area so each room had its own door.

"Then we painted both rooms white while we came up with some good decorating ideas.

"Emily is 13 so we wanted her room to double up as somewhere she could study and chill out with friends.

"William is football crazy - I wanted his room to reflect that and still look good."

Emily's new room EMILY, 13, needs a room to suit her into her mid and late teens - so girly-but-sophisticated pale pink was a good choice. She wants to have friends round and study, so her bed doubles up as a sofa.

Glass beads and crystals were used to give a decadent feel. Simple furniture won't date.
